Air cargo transportation in Latin America has shown a notable recovery in August 2023, according to data published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The region’s airlines recorded the best results globally, with a 6.2% increase in cargo volumes compared to the same month of the previous year.
This growth is explained by the economic and commercial reactivation of the region, which has boosted the demand for imported and exported products. Among the main markets that have contributed to the increase in air cargo are Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.
The capacity of Latin American airlines also increased by 13.7% in August, indicating greater availability of space for the transportation of goods. However, capacity still remains below pre-pandemic levels.
